Make Plans to join us for the 2011 Gold Cup & Saucer August 12 -20, 2011.
Each August Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park is the home of one of the major entertainment attractions in Canada - the Sobeys Gold Cup & Saucer. The fastest horses and the best drivers in all of Eastern Canada converge at the CDP for 15 racing programs in 9 days. The Gold Cup & Saucer dates back to the early 1960’s.
Make plans to be here and watch history be made as the horses and their drivers walk past the spectators as the Island hymn is played to a packed house. The lights go out and the horses and their drivers are introduced to the thousands of fans one by one under the spotlight as they make their way in front of the grandstand. At two minutes to midnight, the famous call to the post is heard and the horses and drivers get ready to compete in one of the best shows in racing….the 52nd running of the Sobeys Gold Cup & Saucer!
The Atlantic Sires Stakes program has been promoting the sport of harness racing for over forty years, while showcasing the best young horses in the region.
The program, which is sponsored by the Atlantic Standardbred Breeders Association, promotes the breeding of standardbred horses in the Atlantic Provinces and provides incentives for people to buy and race horses in our region.
The Atlantic Sires Stakes program is open to two and three-year-old pacers and trotters that were sired by a stallion registered with the program for the applicable breeding year. There are six divisions in the racing series, which will take place at eight racetracks in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island this year.
The Atlantic Sires Stakes program culminates with the Atlantic Breeders Crown championship each year. Participation in the championship weekend is determined by point standings at the end of the season, so every race counts!
